Meluri District, home to the Pochury Naga community, has a rich administrative history. Its journey began in 1958 as a Chairman Bench Court, followed by its up gradation to a Circle Office in 1959. Over the decades, it witnessed several administrative advancements—becoming Assistant Commissioner II in 1962, EAC Headquarters in 1969, SDO(C) Headquarters in 1991, and ADC Headquarters in 2007. The most significant milestone came on November 2, 2024, when Meluri was officially declared the 17th district of Nagaland.
