Meluri District, home to the Pochury Naga tribe. Pochury language is primarily spoken and the population is predominantly Christian. The Pochury tribe was formally recognised on 19th April, 1990 . Pochury Nomenclature is an amalgamation of three ethnic community, namely Sapo, Küchuri and Khwiry. The district has a population of 22,558 as per 2011 Census, with the current population estimated to be around 30,000. Meluri district covers a total geographical area of approximately 1,011 sq. km.
